Description

Majhiphal, scientifically Quercus infectoria, the Aleppo oak, is a species of oak, bearing galls that have been traditionally used for centuries in Asia medicinally. Majuphal is formed on the leaves of the Oaktree and is known as oak galls. There are generally two types of Majhiphals: White gall Majhiphal and Green gall Majhiphal.

Majhiphal contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which is why it is beneficial in wound healings as well. It reduces the risk of skin infection due to its antibacterial property. It also has an astringent property that constricts the skin cells or tissues and helps in skin tightening. According to Ayurveda, gargling with Majhiphal decoction reduces inflammation of the throat and manage tonsilitis. It also prevents bleeding in gums and gives a cooling and soothing effect due to its Kashaya (astringent) and Sita (cold) properties.
