Description
Peepla or Long pepper often recognized as Indian long pepper or pipli, is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae, cultivated for its fruit, which is usually dried and used as a spice and seasoning. Peepla has a taste similar to, but hotter than, that of its close relative Piper nigrum – from which black, green and white pepper are obtained.
The fruit of the plant is used to make medicine is often used in combination with other herbs in Ayurvedic medicine. Peepla is used to improve appetite and digestion, as well as treat stomachache, heartburn, indigestion, intestinal gas, diarrhea, and cholera. Also, it is beneficial for lung problems including asthma, bronchitis, and cough. Moreover, it can also be used for the treatment of headache, toothache, vitamin B1 deficiency (beriberi), coma, epilepsy, fever, stroke, trouble sleeping (insomnia), leprosy, extreme tiredness, enlarged spleen, muscle pain, nasal discharge, paralysis, psoriasis, intestinal worms, snakebites, tetanus, thirst, tuberculosis, and tumors.
